This 44-Year-Old House by Richard Neutra Will Blow You Away

It looks like it could have been built yesterday and—bonus!—you can buy it for $5,500,000.

Full confession—I don’t exactly know where Tarzana, California is (greater L.A. seems a good bet), but I’m willing to move there tomorrow if I could call this design by Richard Neutra home. It’s a house that underscores just how great Neutra was: Frank Lloyd Wright may have been more famous and John Lautner may have been more daring, but I’m not sure I’d ever want to live in one of their designs.

This one the other hand—4 beds, 5 baths, 5,500 sq/ft, 3 acres, killer views—this is a place that’s a supremely livable museum. It’s been thoughtfully updated (I’m assuming Neutra didn’t invent stainless steel appliances), but the flow and the indoor/outdoor space still bear the mark of a master.
