Jillian Harris Shares Her Favourite Home Makeovers

The Love It or List It Vancouver star looks back at her favourite home makeovers from the show.

It’s home makeovers, it’s witty banter, it’s the eternal struggle between good and evil real estate prices.

On episodes of W Network’s Love It or List It Vancouver, interior designer Jillian Harris works to revamp an old home to suit a family’s growing needs, while Realtor Todd Talbot tries to lure homeowners to greener, abode-shaped pastures.

Jillian Harris’s Top 3 ‘Love Its’

Love-It---Episode-5---Photo-1_web

1. Season 3, Episode 5 “Belinda & Sam”

  • Air date: August 3, 2015
  • Design Budget $175,000
  • Real Estate Budget $3,800,000

“Belinda and Sam had an absolutely gorgeous 100-year-old character home in major need for renovations. It was in a great neighbourhood for their growing family, which they of course didn’t want to stray too far from. Their two boys played lots of hockey, so making them a mud room for all of their gear was close to the top of my list, along with opening up the main floor to accommodate the growth of the family. The character home had so many small details that I wanted to capitalize on to make them fall in love with what they originally saw all over again.”

2. Season 3, Episode 7 “Donna & Rick”

  • Air date: August 17, 2015
  • Design Budget $160,000
  • Real Estate Budget $1,500,000

“Donna and Rick had a split-level disaster—the house had ample square footage, but all the rooms were dark and the spaces segregated from one another. I knew that I had a lot of work ahead of me and that this was going to be a large renovation with major walls coming down, spaces rearranged and over-all brightening up throughout. We opened up the kitchen to the large living room that already had high ceilings and also took down the wall between kitchen and dining. This gave the family a much-needed peninsula in the kitchen and married the three areas into one, allowing for the whole family to gather in this shared space.”

3. Season 3, Episode 8 “Lisa & Chris”

  • Air date: August 24, 2015
  • Design Budget: $100,000
  • Real Estate Budget $1,200,000

“Lisa and Chris had a charming old home in a lovely neighbourhood, but the home’s dysfunctions were really cramping the family’s style—one shower for four people and a powder room without a door…not to mention a closet-sized art studio for Chris. We knew that Todd would be showing them larger homes further away (and closer to Lisa’s beloved horse, Mike) so we knew we would have to work creatively within the room sizes to make the most of the spaces, selecting finishes and storage solutions that would win Lisa over and have her see the charm and function of her home again.”
