3 Speakers You Won’t Want to Miss at Miele Trade Day

Early bird registration for IDS Vancouver’s Trade Day is free—but it ends on Sept 2.

It’s almost time for designer heaven: IDS Vancouver (formerly IDSwest) gears up at the end of September. Attracting over 36,000 attendees, including nearly 7,000 designers, builders and other industry professionals, it’s a weekend for designophiles to catch up on what’s new, what’s coming, and to meet the design legends of today.

It’s particularly well planned for designers looking to further hone their craft at Miele Trade Day on Friday, September 23. The Trade Day features a handful of must-see speakers, as well as programming and social sessions that are accredited by both the Interior Designers of Canada and the Architectural Institution of British Columbia.

Here are three speakers that we can’t wait to witness.

Alessandro Munge

If interior design can be considered as another platform for creative expression, then Alessandro Munge of the Toronto-based Studio Munge is a master storyteller. Munge is known for his ability to seamlessly blend a charismatic aesthetic with the requirements of function and hospitality. (You may have already seen his work at the gorgeous new Nightingale restaurant in Vancouver.)

Tom Dixon

He’s the British designer who gets is rebel reputation authentically—he was once in a punk band—and his designs have quickly become modern classics. (His Beat series may have actually surpassed Bocci lamps in popularity.) If there ever was an absolute can’t-miss speaker, this is the one. The self-taught Tom Dixon will deliver the keynote speech on the Caesarstone Stage.

Egg Collective

Composed of Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis and Hillary Petrie, the trio known as Egg Collective has rapidly made a name for itself as one of the most talented forces in design. By combining its founders’ backgrounds in architecture, art and woodworking, Egg Collective is able to produce pieces that exude impeccable precision and quality.
