Seaside Oasis

With views overlooking Vancouver’s Coal Harbour, this condo bathroom had a lot to compete with. So designer Sharon Bortolotto created even more beauty tubside with cool drama and sleek lines.

If space allows, double up
No one likes a bathroom hog; keep the peace by making room for two. Double sinks and plenty of polished marble counter space make mornings better..

Light for every occasion
Mix up the lighting sources to provide for a variety of functions, whether a quick freshen-up or a long wind-down. This room boasts recessed incandescent fixtures, low-voltage directional accent lights, adjustable mirror frame lighting and under-cabinet strip lighting for a soft glow.

Get off the floor
The Bordeaux-coloured lacquer vanity cabinetry, the Subway toilet from Villeroy & Boch and the Italian chrome faucets are all wall-mounted, which keeps the space feeling airy, and-added bonus-makes it easier to clean.

Hide it in plain sight
The full-height art niche (which holds a painting by Maggie Finnegan) offers more than just a pretty picture. Its charcoal-stained rift-cut oak frame houses pocket doors; pull them out to create instant privacy between the bedroom and the bath.

Keep it classic
To make your lavatory love last, go for classic materials and timeless finishes. The bold, glossy cabinets add a pop of modern colour, but the strengths in this room are the pure white Thassos marble floors, the wood accents and the smoky grey glass shower, which offer simple elegance with staying power.
