Super-sized art? Go for it
One of the biggest decorating mistakes people make is to count on bits and pieces of art to hold interest on a large wall, says Lavoie. That’s as true for bathrooms as for any other room in the house. Scale a painting to the size of a wall.
Get inspired by nature
This wallpaper is meant to look like silver leaf. As with the flooring, it was chosen in part to pull together existing finishes with new touches such as the mirrored vanity, but it also serves to add an element of natural elegance.
Go glam underfoot
Flooring is often a missed opportunity to jazz up the loo. The previous homeowners opted for grey carpet, but Lavoie and his team replaced it with an Italian ceramic tile with an embossed Indian pattern-an unusual design that reads either red or silver, depending on the angle.

Incorporate whimsy
This ornate Venetian mirror hangs around the corner from the main part of the bathroom, across from the bathtub where few visitors will see it. But that’s part of what makes it spectacular-it’s a hidden gem the homeowners can enjoy every day.
Use mirrored façades to brighten the room
Lavoie left the storage in the bathroom as is-except to reface the original dark wood with mirrored façades. Along with the added glamour, the mirrors exploit the ample sunlight streaming in from south-facing windows.
