Scarier than the goblin and zombie costumes on Halloween are the multisyllabic ingredients listed on the packages of most treats. Luckily, natural food colours have come a long way. For these lollipops, we sourced colours naturally derived from vegetables (no Yellow Dye #5) and pure lemon oil for flavour. In less than 20 minutes you can be a kid in your own candy shop—with ingredients that won't give you a fright.

RECIPE
Lemon Lollipops
1 cup cane sugar
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup light corn syrup
½ cup water
2-3 drops natural food colour
¼ tsp pure lemon oil
15-20 lollipop sticks
Place a sheet of tinfoil on a baking pan and lightly oil the surface. Lay sticks along foil, spaced at least 3 inches apart. Heat sugar, maple syrup, corn syrup and water in saucepan and bring to a boil. Using a candy thermometer, bring temperature to 300°F, then add colour and flavour. Carefully pour onto tops of sticks to desired size and let cool. Once cooled, cover in plastic wrap.
TIP Natural food colours are derived from ingredients like tumeric (yellow), beets (red) and blueberries (just guess). They're available at most specialty food stores
