If eating local is your thing (or, at least, if saying eating local is your thing) it doesn't get much more local than these tart little berries—they're one of the only commercial harvests indigenous to North America. Once a First Nations staple, they helped Canadian sailors fight scurvy, and they continue to have a place on the holiday table. If, like me, you think that the only good reason to cook up a turkey is for the subsequent sandwiches, this cranberry chutney will add the required zing. It has that perfect balance of salty, sour and sweet to activate the taste buds; that cranberries are good for you is just dressing. wl
